A new methodology for the improvement of diagnostic immunohistochemistry in canine veterinary pathology: automated system using human monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Cassali,G.D.; Silva,P.; Rêma,A.; Gärtner,F.; Gobbi,H.; Tafuri,W.L.; Schmitt,F.C..
The authors describe their experience with an automated immunohistochemical system applied to canine tissue samples. Twenty human cellular markers specific monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies and two different antigen retrieval methods were used in normal and neoplastic breast tissue, as well as skin samples obtained from female dogs of pure and mixed breeds. The antibodies tested were the most frequently used in human and veterinary medicine studies, employed with diagnostic purposes in breast pathology, as well as in cancer research. Most of them may be used to study other normal and abnormal tissues and included cytokeratins, progesterone receptor, c-erbB2, p53, MIB-1, PCNA, EMA, vimentin, desmin, alpha-actin, S-100, pan-cadherin, and E-cadherin. The...

Acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography of testicular disorders in dogs: preliminary results Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Feliciano,M.A.R.; Maronezi,M.C.; Simões,A.P.R.; Maciel,G.S.; Pavan,L.; Gasser,B.; Silva,P.; Uscategui,R.R.; Carvalho,C.F.; Canola,J.C.; Vicente,W.R.R..
The aim of this study was to describe the use of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography in the evaluation of testicular disorders in dogs. Eighteen dogs with testicular disorders (thirty-six testicles) were assessed. Echotexture, size, contours and margins of testes were analysed by ultrasonography. Deformities and tissue stiffness (greyscale and homogenous or heterogeneous) were evaluated by qualitative elastography and shear velocity was determined quantitatively. Subsequent to orchiectomy, testicular samples were collected for histopathology analysis and thirty-six disorders were identified. Qualitative elastography revealed that normal healthy testicular tissues were homogenous and not pliable while the affected testicles had alterations...

Carbohydrate antigen 125 predicts pulmonary congestion in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction BJMBR
Falcão,F.J.A.; Oliveira,F.R.A.; Cantarelli,F.; Cantarelli,R.; Brito-Júnior,P.; Lemos,H.; Silva,P.; Camboim,I.; Freire,M.C.; Carvalho,O.; Sobral-Filho,D.C..
Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) has long been used as an ovarian cancer biomarker. However, because it is not specific for ovarian cells, CA125 could also be used to monitor congestion and inflammation in heart disease. Acute heart failure (HF) is used to identify patients with a worse prognosis in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We aimed to determine the association of CA125 with acute HF in STEMI and to compare CA125 with N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) with a cross-sectional study. At admission, patients were examined to define Killip class and then underwent coronary angioplasty. Blood samples, preferably taken in the hemodynamic ward, were centrifuged (1500 g for 15 min at ambient temperature) and stored at...

Characterization of rat heart alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes and modulation of activity BJMBR
Mota,A.; Silva,P.; Neves,D.; Lemos,C.; Calhau,C.; Torres,D.; Martel,F.; Fraga,H.; Ribeiro,L.; Alçada,M.N.M.P.; Pinho,M.J.; Negrão,M.R.; Pedrosa,R.; Guerreiro,S.; Guimarães,J.T.; Azevedo,I.; Martins,M.J..
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is important in calcification and its expression seems to be associated with the inflammatory process. We investigated the in vitro acute effects of compounds used for the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular diseases on total ALP activity from male Wistar rat heart homogenate. ALP activity was determined by quantifying, at 410 nm, the p-nitrophenol released from p-nitrophenylphosphate (substrate in Tris buffer, pH 10.4). Using specific inhibitors of ALP activity and the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, we showed that the rat heart had high ALP activity (31.73 ± 3.43 nmol p-nitrophenol·mg protein-1·min-1): mainly tissue-nonspecific ALP but also tissue-specific intestinal ALP type II. Both ALP isoenzymes...

Dietary intake and eating behavior in depot medroxyprogesterone acetate users: a systematic review BJMBR
Silva,P.; Qadir,S.; Fernandes,A.; Bahamondes,L.; Peipert,J.F..
Because of weight gain, women often discontinue hormonal contraception, especially depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). Our objective was to conduct a systematic review of studies describing dietary intake or eating behavior in DMPA users to understand whether the use of DMPA is associated with changes in dietary habits and behaviors leading to weight gain. We searched the PubMed, POPLINE, CENTRAL Cochrane, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases for reports published in English between 1980 and 2017 examining dietary intake or eating behavior in healthy women in reproductive age and adolescents using DMPA (150 mg/mL). Of the 749 publications screened, we excluded 742 due to duplicates (96), not addressing the key research question (638), not reporting...

Epitelização de enxertos cutâneos em feridas recentes de coelhos tratados com membrana amniótica canina e/ou laserterapia Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Reis Filho,N.; Ferreira,M.; Pascoli,A.; Viéra,R.; Pazzini,J.; Oliveira,R.; Salardani,I.; Silva,P.; Rosseto,L.; Albernaz,S.; Vasconcelos,R.O.; Ferraudo,A.; Moraes,P.C.; Nardi,A..

Pulmonar ARFI elastography and ultrasonography of canine fetal hydrops: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Maronezi,M.C.; Madruga,G.M.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Simões,A.P.R.; Silva,P.; Rodrigues,M.G.K.; Cintra,C.A.; Assis,A.R.; Vicente,W.R.R.; Feliciano,M.A.R..
ABSTRACT This case report describes diagnostic and prognostic applicability of pulmonary acoustic radiation force impulse elastography and ultrasonography in canine hydrops fetalis. We also explore these methods’ potential in prediction of postnatal respiratory dysfunction. Two pregnant bitches (English bulldog [case 1] and French bulldog [case 2]) were referred for sonographic evaluation in their last week of pregnancy. Ultrasound showed that in each bitch, one fetus presented with lung alterations (hyperechogenicity, irregular surface, and pleural effusion) and anasarca. The other fetuses of the litter were normal, and they were observed as light gray and dark blue on pulmonary elastography. Their shear-wave velocity was 0.75m/s. Fetuses with hydrops...

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of twins in two pregnant bitches: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Pavan,L.; Gasser,B.; Santos,V.J.C.; Maronezi,M.C.; Silva,P.; Assis,A.R.; Garcia,P.H.S.; Martins Junior,R.; Uscategui,R.A.R.; Feliciano,M.A.R..
ABSTRACT Multiple pregnancies in humans account for only 3% of pregnancies, 97-98% of which are twin pregnancies and the morbimortality is higher in the monochorionic twins when compared to dichorionic ones. The canine species is naturally multiparous, but the diagnosis of monochorionic twin pregnancy is not common. The objective of this report was to describe the ultrasonographic diagnosis of monochorionic twin pregnancies in two bitches [Pug (case 1) and Shih tzu (case 2)]. It was possible to verify the presence of one gestational vesicle containing two fetuses in each female by observing two heads or two bodies within the same placental site. These fetuses presented adequate viability and normal organogenesis. Their development was similar to the other...

Variabilidad del gen RYR1 y efecto en el pH de la carne en cerdos híbridos argentinos InVet
Marini,S.J.; Vanzetti,L.S.; Borelli,V.S.; Villareal,A.O.; Denegri,G.D.; Cottura,G.A.; Panichelli,D.; Silva,P.; Campagna,D.; Spiner,N.; Brunori,J.C.; Franco,R..
